Dual Galaxies M81 and M82

M81 (Bode’s galaxy) and M82 are part of a group of galaxies in Ursa Major. Both galaxies are bright galaxies easily visible with a small telescope. M81 is a spiral galaxy while M82 looks like irregular galaxy (however Hubble photos recently discovered that it might be a spiral galaxy as well).

This image of M81 and M82 was taken at Lake San Antonio which is a fairly dark site. Composite image is about 13 minutes taken with Astro-Tech AT111 on Atlas EQ-G mount with Canon 60d. The mount was guided using Orion Starshoot Autoguider.
